B i o g r a p h y

Clarinetist and music educator Bradley Mitchell made his solo debut at the age of seventeen, playing the first movement of Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Since then, he has enjoyed performing with a variety of ensembles. An upcoming project includes Synesthesia; a collaborative new music show combining the talents of Peabody Musicians and Composers with the art works of MICA students.

 

As an ensemble clarinetist, Bradley has performed with the Peabody Chamber Opera for the productions of the modern operas Transformations and Postcard from Morocco. Recently he has performed with the Charm City Collegium, Peabody Symphony Orchestra, Peabody Camerata Ensemble, Occasional Symphony, and the Harrisburg Choral Society. He also plays the bass clarinet, and was featured playing the E-flat clarinet on the Naxos Label with the Peabody Wind Ensemble in a recording of Johan de Meij’s first symphony, The Lord of the Rings, and third symphony, Planet Earth which has recently been nominated for a Grammy. He has worked with conductors Marin Aslop, Leon Fleisher, Cristian Măcelaru, Harlan Parker, Gene Young, and Edward Polochick, and performed in masterclasses for Ricardo Morales, Robert DiLutis, Ralph Skiano, Kim Fischer, and the Brentano String Quartet.

 

Bradley’s playing has been recognized with awards, including a Peabody Merit Scholarship, the John DiLutis Memorial Scholarship, a Baltimore Rotary Club Scholarship, and a Maryland Distinguished Scholarship for the arts.

As a music educator, Bradley completed a teaching internship with Brian Folus at Red Pump Elementary School in Bel Air, MD, where he taught fourth and fifth graders instrumental music. He also interned at Cockeysville Middle School in Cockeysville, MD, with John Sindler, where he taught sixth, seventh and eighth grade instrumental and full band classes. Bradley currently teaches private clarinet and bass clarinet lessons for beginner, intermediate, and advanced students at Music and Arts Center in Timonium, MD along with teaching at Locerkman-Bundy Elementary School in Baltimore City for the BSO’s OrchKids program.

 

Bradley studied with Steven Barta at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University where he graduated in May 2013 with a Bachelor of Music degree in Clarinet Performance and Music Education. In his free time, Bradley enjoys running and has completed various races including the Frederick Half Marathon and Baltimore Full marathon. He is currently training for the Virginia Beach, Pittsburg, Chicago, Baltimore, and Philadephia Full Marathons in 2014.
